Privacy Policy

Sound Meter — Decibel / Sound Level Meter • Last updated: June 16, 2026

The short version: Sound Meter does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. The microphone is used only to measure loudness in real time — no audio is ever recorded. Everything stays on your device.

What data does Sound Meter access?

Saved readings and sessions

When you record a session or save a reading, Sound Meter stores only the resulting measurement data (such as duration and average, minimum, and maximum decibel values) and any name you give it. This information is stored locally on your device. No location data, GPS coordinates, or audio is collected.

Advertising

Sound Meter displays ads provided by Google AdMob. Google may collect and use data for ad personalisation in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.

You can manage your ad preferences via your device's settings. When required by law (for example, under GDPR or CCPA), Sound Meter shows a consent form asking for your choice regarding personalised ads.

Permissions summary

Sound Meter does not request access to your camera, contacts, location, phone state, or files.

Children's privacy

Sound Meter is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Data retention

All measurement history and settings are stored locally on your device. You can delete individual sessions and readings within the app at any time. Uninstalling the app removes all data.

Disclaimer

Sound Meter is intended for informational and educational purposes only. Measurements depend on your device's microphone and are not a substitute for a calibrated, professional sound level meter. Do not rely on this app for occupational safety, legal, or medical decisions.

Changes to this policy

If we update this privacy policy, the changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
